The course aims to provide a deep understanding of the concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and to develop practical skills for promoting a more inclusive work and social environment. By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Define the key concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and understand their importance in both professional and personal contexts.
- Recognize and analyze their own biases and stereotypes, understanding how these influence individual and collective behavior.
- Identify systems of oppression and their impact on people and communities.
- Adopt concrete strategies to interrupt the cycle of socialization and promote inclusive practices.
Content
The course is divided into 3 main sections that address the following topics:
- Introduction to DEI: Definition and importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- The Socialization Cycle: How biases and values are internalized and perpetuated.
- Understanding Bias: Conscious and unconscious biases and their impact.
- Identity and Intersectionality: The importance of different identities and how they intersect.
- Emotional Intelligence: The role of empathy in promoting DEI.
- Systems of Oppression: Analysis of major systems of oppression (ableism, racism, sexism, etc.).
- Dismantling Oppressive Systems: Strategies to promote equity and social justice.
- Reflection and Assessment: Quizzes and summaries to consolidate knowledge.
